IR(H) distance learning

Is the course conducted in English?

All our courses and all associated learning material is in English

Do I have to take the EASA exams in Norway?

No, you can sit the exams in any EASA member state. EHC will provide with the documents needed for this

Is the classroom instruction mandatory?

Yes, according to EASA regulations, a certain portion of the IR course must be conducted by an instructor in a classroom setting.

Can you provide classroom instruction outside of Norway?

As for now, you can only do it at EHC Sandefjord, but we are looking into the possibility it can be done in Lelystad, Netherlands as well

Do I need to have my PPL before signing up for the course?

Yes, an EASA or ICAO/FAA PPL (H) is a prerequisite prior to enrolling into the course. 

I have PPL(H), and want IR(H), how many subjects do I need?

7 subjects, Airlaw, Instrumentation, Flight Planning and Monitoring, Human Performance, Meterology, Radio Navigation, Communication

I have CPL(H) and want IR(H), how many subjects do I need?

4 subjects, Airlaw, Instrumentation, Radio navigation, Flight Planning and Monitoring

I have a frozen ATPL(H)IR or ATPL(H)VFR and want the IR theory active, how many subjects do I need?

3 subjects, Radio navigation, Airlaw and Flight Planning and Monitoring

How long do I have to complete?

3 subjects: You have 6 months to complete the course
4 subjects: You have 6 months to complete the course
7 subjects: You have 12 months to complete the course

How many hours of classroom is there?

3 subjects: 7 hours of classroom lectures + additional 3 hours of school tests
4 subjects: 9 hours of classroom lectures + additional 4 hours of school tests
7 subjects: 15 hours of classroom lectures + additional 7 hours of school tests

How is the distance learning course conducted?

Part 1, you read the subject(s) on your own, completing the program
Part 2, arrange with EHC for classroom lectures and school tests. When done, you are eligible for the EASA exams

How long is the theory valid for, after the exam?

3 years

Do I need other school materials in addition to the digital software?

Jeppesen Student Pilot Route GSPRM, Calculator, Protractor, NM- scale ruler

Can I retake the admission test if I don’t pass?

If you do not pass the math or logic sections, but the interview and all your other qualifications are fine, we can allow you to retake the initial tests.
